A downloadable game for Windows

this is an old demo of an RPG I worked on throughout high school (early 2000s). it is heavily influenced by the squaresoft games of the 90s. the beginning of the game can be a slog to get through, but there's probably a few hours worth of gameplay if you explore every nook and cranny.

I started making the game in RPG maker 2000 and I eventually ported it over to 2003 for the improved battle system. I spent so much damn time on things like the opening cut scene, a tech learning system, and tons of hidden items and easter eggs on almost every map. I only made a few assets like the minimap. most of the assets were cobbled together from what was available online at the time. music is mostly squaresoft stuff mixed with some other midi versions of classic tunes.

the demo mostly still works but there are bugs here and there, like a girl in the first town that crashes the game if you try to talk to her. let me know how far you get.

Install instructions

the installation for this thing is kinda messed up because of how old it is. when you unzip the file, run the setup, and confirm the installation location by clicking on the left-most button (you may not be able to read the instructions). after it finishes installing, go to the installation location and run the game by launching 'RPG_RT.exe' the game will most likely launch in full screen, which you can escape by pressing F4.
